The correct relationship between environment and health is recognized by the international scientific community as a determining factor for the psycho-physical of every person.
L 'Italian Association of Doctors for the Environment ISDE (International Society of Doctors for the Environment, Italy) (www.isde.it), in consideration of this vital report also identifies mobility as a key sector and urgent d' intervention .
vehicular transport by road and air transport are in fact two forms of mobility, highly polluting and damaging to health, which must be reduced.
decades are well known health issues relating to traffic, especially in large cities, but less known to the general public are those caused by air transport. The aircraft engines are powered by kerosene, a fossil fuel, high pollution, producing poisonous gases and toxic dust and also contributes substantially to emissions of carbon dioxide and then to the 'greenhouse effect. Air transport, in addition to air pollution, is also responsible for noise and electromagnetic pollution.
During the IVth Italian Medical Environment Day, held 4 to 6 November 2009, was highlighted the alarming environmental and health situation and determined to Ciampino airport to the surrounding air, especially by the intense traffic of low cost carriers .
This same situation is also experienced and witnessed by the people who live in areas close to many Italian airports subject to intense air handling.
The ISDE, in view of the scientific documents, studies, and about the condition of suffering and discomfort complaints from citizens of Ciampino, Marino and X Municipio di Roma, appeals to public health officials, the institutions, agencies responsible because they are reduced urgently and dramatically flights at Ciampino airport and other Italian airports in which to record situations of concern and risk for damage to the environment and human health. The ISDE
calls for all communities and all areas subject to intense air traffic, construction of continuous monitoring and adjustment to the health of residents and especially the health of children, constant monitoring, effective and complete air quality, noise levels in the areas affected overflight of aircraft, and investigations and audits to detect the possible pollution of lands and waters. The ISDE
urges the establishment of a national plan to reduce the mobility of road mobility and reduce and rationalize the transport plane, incentives, rail transport, while respecting the specificities of the territories and rights of the peoples concerned, and transport by sea through the so-called Motorways of the sea.
